Fixed teams, a live ladder. The partner never changes, but the opponent gets closer to the team’s level every round.
What is a Team Mexicano?
A Team Mexicano keeps teams fixed the way a Team Americano does: sign up as a pair and stay that pair all tournament, but it drops the pre-drawn schedule for a live one. Round 1 is a random draw between teams; every round after, teams are ranked by combined points and matched by adjacent standing, the top two teams play each other, the next two play each other, and so on down the table.
That keeps the format’s biggest draw intact: no fixed pairing to organise beforehand, and matches that stay competitive because a team is always facing another team near its current position, not whoever a bracket happened to assign at the start.
Re-seeding a whole team ladder after every round is not something to do on paper. PadelEasy re-sorts the team standings and rebuilds the next round’s matchups the moment the last score is in.
How it works
From fixed teams turning up to a running team ladder in four steps.
- Step 1
Form the teams
Sign up in fixed pairs of two. Two teams is the minimum, and the format scales as more teams join.
- Step 2
Round 1 is a random draw
With no standings yet, the first round matches teams at random across the available courts.
- Step 3
Every round after re-seeds by standing
Teams are ranked by combined points and matched by adjacent rank: 1st plays 2nd, 3rd plays 4th, and so on.
- Step 4
Stop whenever you like
There is no built-in final round. Play as many rounds as the court time allows, then the team table decides the winner.
Scoring and ranking
Scoring is points only, same as any Mexicano, except the total, and the ranking that reshuffles the ladder, belongs to the team.
Points per match
Matches are played to a fixed total, commonly 16, 24 or 32 points, shared between both members of a team.
Ranking
Teams are ranked by combined points scored so far, and that ranking is exactly what decides the next matchups.
Tiebreakers
Level totals are split by team point difference, then by team match wins.
Sit-outs
With an odd number of teams, one sits out each round on a fair rotation.

This is a real sequence produced by the PadelEasy engine. Teams stay fixed; only the matchups move, closer to their current standing every round.
Round 1 is random since there are no standings yet. From round 2 on, PadelEasy re-sorts the team table and matches adjacent ranks, so the top of the table stays under pressure all the way to the last round.

How many teams do you need?
Two is the minimum, and it scales from there, up to 20 teams in PadelEasy.
Do partners ever change?
No. Teams are fixed all tournament; only the matchups change, based on the live team standings.
How are matchups decided each round?
After round 1’s random draw, teams are ranked by combined points and matched by adjacent standing: 1st against 2nd, 3rd against 4th, and so on.
How many rounds does it last?
As many as wanted, there is no built-in final round. Play stops when court time runs out and the team table decides the winner.
How is this different from Team Americano?
A Team Americano draws a fixed round robin before play starts. Here nothing is fixed upfront; matchups are redrawn from the team standings after every round.
